Missouri River Fishing Report – 6/7

L-8
Beginning in April, once a week we will post a brief description of a rig we saw during the previous week that had one of our Kingfisher stickers on the window. When you recognize it as being your car described in our hatch report, stop into the shop and pick out 2 dozen nymphs or dries on us!!

We’ve seen a huge drop in flows on the Missouri below Holter Dam. It went from 11000cfs early in the week to just above 5000cfs now. Variable flows can sometimes mess with the fishing, so some stabilization would be welcome. Otherwise, though, we’ve been having good days over here, with some dry fly fishing to be had with the increasing caddis hatches. For dry flies, we’re looking at small purple hazes, midge clusters, elk hair caddis, parachute baetis, baetis button emergers and small flying ants. For subsurface, stick with sow bugs, czech nymphs, caddis pupae, scuds, small PTs and lightning bugs.
