Missouri River Fishing Report – 7/3

Guided Float trips on the Missouri with The Kingfisher Fly Shop

Guided Float trips on the Missouri with The Kingfisher Fly ShopFor some reason, the Missouri has risen nearly 2000cfs in under a week, now above 6000cfs. I don’t really have an explanation for it, but it surely has something to do with filling up the Missouri chain of lakes. Ideally, fishing shouldn’t be bothered too much, as it has been fishing really well. When the wind is calm, the dry fly fishing has been awesome, but nymphing is still the reliable method. For dry flies, we’re looking at PMD cripples, standard Adams parachutes, midge clusters, elk hair caddis, parachute baetis, baetis button emergers and small flying ants. For subsurface, stick with sow bugs, czech nymphs, caddis pupae, scuds, small PTs and lightning bugs (or a Pat’s Rubberlegs, which worked well this week, weirdly enough). For streamers use black, olive or brown sculpzillas, woolhead sculpins, standard buggers and JJ’s specials.
