Missouri River Report: 4/20

DSCN0745

REPORTS: Well . . .you’ve got the cloud cover, a bit of rain and the comparatively warm daytime highs on tap today, unfortunately, if the weather guys are correct, you’ll have the opportunity to experience 34 mph wind gusts too.  Enchanting.  The river is primed to fish, it really wants to!  With any kind of break in the gales, dries, nymphs and streamers are all taking fish very effectively.  If you can find any kind of protected area when indicator drifts will be less impacted by whitecaps, your fishing will be good.  With even 15 minutes of calmer conditions, the fatties will be looking up.  Sometimes chucking streamers on a short cast tight to the banks is a way to at least cope with the wind.  Keep your fingers crossed that the weather report is fiction!

FLIES: Griffith’s gnats 16-20, Midge patterns in the afternoon, Skwala/dropper rigs lower on the river, lightening bugs, RS2, p-tails, scuds, and streamers of the natural sort.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Look for the next warm up to absolutely bust things loose over here – in a good way!
