Rock Creek – 7/22

DSCN4185REPORT:

The creek has been topping out temperature wise at about 69 degrees the past few days, even in the scorching heat.  The cool nights are going a LONG way to keeping us out of “Hoot Owl” restrictions.  Keep your fingers crossed for some cooler daytime temps too. The best fishing these days continues to be on the upper 1/2 of the river, but there are good options here and there on the lower river as well.  The fish are on a variety of menu items here in the dog days of summer. Prospect with everything from hoppers to soft hackles is the way to get dialed in on a daily favorite.  Smaller streamers in yellow, like Clowsers, have been working well for us as have red tarantulas and humpies.  The evenings have been good with caddis dries above an emergent pupa.  Some evenings, however, all they’ll eat are technically presented mayfly spinners.
