Rock Creek Fishing Report – 5/17

Salmon Flies on Rock Creek kingfisher Fly Shop

Bitterroot Fishing Report - 4/12

With the rain and warmer nights, we had a stronger push of water into the creek over the last 24 hours.  With the rain and overcast conditions in the coming forecast, we’ll see another bump in flow along with some clarity change.  Don’t worry though, That’ll also bring on some top water mayfly action in the flavors of blue wings and drakes today, hopefully.  The Salmon flies have also started popping, but not in any big numbers yet.  It sounds like the fish have barely started keying in on the big bugs but that’ll change quick as the hatch hits full throttle in the coming days/week/s.  With the onslaught of giant trout eating big stupid bugs, you’re gonna want to have some big rogue salmon flies, sofa pillows, orange chubbies, orange circus peanuts, and some purple hazes, parachute adams, parachute BWOs, and BWO cripples until the salmon flies get going.  For subsurface junk use big black Kaufman’s stones, big black double beaded stones, Dark nasty Pat’s rubber legs, bitch creeks, and San Juan worms.  Fishing a tandem nymph rig through the deeper pools and along the banks has been pretty successful too.
