Rock Creek Report – 10/11

It’s definitely getting colder up here which is scrunching down the effective dryfly action to about a 2 or 3 hour window midday.  Even the nymphing has stalled a bit until the sun’s been up awhile.  When you do see fish rising, a size 14 comparadun or Adams/haze should work about as well as anything.  By mid afternoon, though, sometimes a smaller royal stimi is still the best route to coax up skeptical feeders.  Standard nymphs  in a variety of sizes from huge to minute are all working well too. Lower water levels make wading easier, but necessitate more careful and drag-free casts. The flow this morning near Clinton is 227 cfs.  *The Kingfisher U of M class rods are now available while supplies last.  Lightly used high end Sage rods with the full lifetime warranty for 30% off*
