Rock Creek Report – 6/1

BS-S-1REPORT:

The creek is back down below 1,000 cfs for the first time since May 8th.  Today’s flow near Clinton is 974 cfs compared to 1500 a year ago today. Water levels are at a good compromise for both floating and finding some fishable water from shore.  The salmonflies are river-wide at this point, but most heavily concentrated mid river and lower.  A variety of bigger bugs are working such as 1/2 downs, Rogue salmonflies, big Para Madam Xs and even big royal stimis.  Getting your cast TIGHT to the banks is key and even the difference of a few inches can dramatically change the size of fish you’ll tag. Keeping short droppers of red San Juans or standard mayfly nymphs off the back of your big bugs will increase your hook-up rate.  If you’re wading today, it’ll probably be worth your while to go up around through Pburg and hit the upper end. Fishing up here has been outstanding and it’s much more wading friendly water.   Today’s bright sun will only help your big bug prospects on the creek today!

1/2 OFF Fridays.  50% Off your 1st dozen nymphs and dries!  Every Friday – Every Week

The salmonfly hatch is intensifying and the fish are now readily looking for them.  If you are, too, we’ve got ’em!IMG_1815[1]

FLIES: Salmonfly dries of all kinds, yellow or white bunnies/streamers. Brooke’s stones and big princes right off the bottom.
