Rock Creek Report – 8/29

REPORT:

DSC_0745Nice to see the pressure dropping off just a bit with school back in session and the end of peak tourist season.  It won’t be long before the colors begin to turn and hard frost shifts the hatches dramatically. For now, the creek continues to fishin with terrestrials like smaller hoppers, ants and spruce moths. As always this time of year, the red PMX in smaller sizes is a good bet.  Royal stimulators with p-tail droppers have been very consistent lately too.  There is a decent showing of caddis in the evening and this has been producing some good action in the couple of hours before dark.  On many evenings, the fatties will forgo the actively hatching caddis to eat size 18 royal wulffs though.  The fishing is probably a bit better on the upper 1/3 of the river than anywhere else on the creek, but it’s good enough river-wide to prevent a long drive around to the top if you’re short on time.

1/2 OFF Fridays.  50% Off your 1st dozen nymphs and dries!  Every Friday – Every Week

FLIES: PMDs, caddis, hoppers, ants and spruce moths
