Rock Creek Report – 8/6

S-15REPORT:

The creek is seeing about a 10 degree temperature shift in the course of the day lately.  This means that the water’s actually needing to warm up a bit (how’s that for ironic) before the fishing truly gets going.  The best dryfly action will begin around 11 and keep going clear into mid evening with the caddis.  Daytime PMDS, terrestrials and smaller attractors will be your best bet.  Nymphing has also been very effective but short of using this technique to catch some fish before the dries get going, there’s really no need to go subsurface one the fish start looking up.  Small stimi chew toys or red PMX’s in a 12 or 14 should do good things for you.  Later in the afternoon, light colored elk hair caddis patterns will be a good cross over between the spruce moths and late in the day caddis.  Today’s flow on the creek near Clinton is 242 compared with 296 on this day last year.
