Rock Creek Report – 8/9

DSCN4185REPORT:

Rock Creek is running 223 cfs this morning compared with 275 cfs a year ago today.  The best dryfly action will begin around 11 and keep going clear into mid evening with the caddis.  Daytime PMDs, terrestrials and smaller attractors will be your best bet.  Nymphing has also been very effective but short of using this technique to catch some fish before the dries get going, there’s really no need to go subsurface once the fish start looking up.  Small stimi chew toys or red PMXs in a 12 or 14 should do good things for you.  Later in the afternoon, light colored elk hair caddis patterns will be a good cross over between the spruce moths and late in the day caddis.  The creek has begun to fish pretty equally along most of its length at this point.

1/2 OFF Fridays.  50% Off your 1st dozen nymphs and dries!  Every Friday – Every Week

FLIES: PMDs, caddis, hoppers, ants and spruce moths
