Rock Creek Report – 9/9

DSC_0224Like all the rivers in the area, the clouds and cooler nights are dropping water temps pretty dramatically – enough so that it’s taking a bit in the mornings for things to warm up enough to get the fish looking up.  Yesterday’s high water temperature near Clinton was 60.5 degrees and the fishing was tough on top until around 11:30.  Once it did happen, as has been the case for awhile now, the size 12 royal stimulator was our golden boy.  We caught fish on other stuff from hoppers to yellow humpies, but there was no comparison.  You’ll want some if you head up this way.  In the morning, our best set-up was a tandem rig under an indicator with nothing magic pattern wise that we found.  We took fish on a variety of nymphs including red copper Johns to beadhead hare’s ears.
